A SONG FOR THE PEOPLE, WRITTEN BY MY FRIEND JOE STANLEY, MANY YEARS AGO.

Smile for the camera, say cheese,

If you haven’t got a record walk with ease,

Every single move you make will be known,

You’ll never walk a dark street alone.

Big brother is watching all of the time,

Whilst waiting for you to cross the line,

The line is crossed, you don’t even know,

You’re the latest on the camera show.

There’s nothing you can do

That won’t be seen,

For the life of freedom you can only dream,

Who are the people that put them in place,

Who are the people without a face.

The camera is rolling what does it see,

The emptiness of a land that used to be free,

Roll on forever, roll on and on,

The people you search for, the dead they are gone.

Chorus…

Big brother, Big brother... Leave me alone,

Allow me to live in a land that was home,

Big brother, Big brother…what do you see,

Nothing I hope, I want to be free.

Or as the Stereophonics put it - Just enough education to perform?
